Job Description
The Field Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and performing high-quality repairs on surgical devices and equipment. This role requires strict adherence to safety and procedural standards and close collaboration with Operations, Warehouse & Logistics, and Customer Service teams to ensure effective coordination and execution of service activities.
The position is onsite but involves significant travel (up to 50%), including overnight and multi-day assignments. Proof of vaccination for accreditation and access is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel to customer locations to perform equipment inspections, installations, maintenance, and training.
- Accurately document field activity (FSRs), expenses, and other required information.
- Collaborate with the supervisor to schedule equipment calibrations and preventative maintenance services.
- Build and maintain excellent customer relationships while providing technical support and ensuring timely calibration and maintenance of equipment.
- Test, measure, and validate products, components, or devices to verify compliance with functional specifications.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment by disassembling defective components and installing replacements per established procedures.
- Generate and file test reports, validation data, and scrap records according to company protocols.
- Investigate customer returns and damaged goods; ensure compliance with warranty provisions.
- Provide analytical input for Quality meetings, process evaluations, and product qualifications.
- Contribute to the CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) program for product and process improvements.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to identify repair supplies and manage inventory for Technical Service supplies.
- Maintain the Technical Service department and equipment following 6S lean methods (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, Safety).
- Support warehouse operations as needed, including picking and packing.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in field service or technical repair roles, preferably in a medical or surgical device context.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and repair skills with the ability to interpret technical manuals and documentation.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills to build strong client relationships.
- Willingness to travel extensively and maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate client needs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Familiarity with 6S lean methods and CAPA programs is a plus.
- Vaccination status may be required to access certain client facilities.
